About Liberty

Located in St. Joseph Michigan, Liberty Steel Fabricating is an engineering and manufacturing company that provides a complete variety of equipment and component assembly and metal machining services.

Plus, we offer solutions for a variety of manufacturers.  Liberty can control its quality, delivery, and costs by completing most, if not all, of the metal cutting, fabricating, machining and polishing operations in house.

In The Beginning

Liberty began in 1998 as Liberty Steel Fabricating, Inc. with owner Andy Gantenbein and one other employee.

“Basically, I had the shirt on my back,” says Gantenbein.  “I had part of a 14,000 square foot building.  I had no equipment except an office and a telephone.  I was a broker, and as things started rolling, I began buying equipment to provide better service to my customers.  At the time, I had about 15 years of experience in metalworking with a mechanical engineering background.”  The business strategy of owner and founder, Andrew Gantenbein, is to embrace change, converting risk into opportunity.

Our Core Belief

“Rejecting, but not fearing failure is an integral part of the evolution of this business. It’s part of my own evolution.  It’s how we’ve grown.”

Founded in 1998, the 23,000 square foot facility has handled an average of over 800 different orders per month with an average lead time of eight days per job.  Impressively, the majority of the projects handled have been prototypes.  Specializing in the medical, transportation, automotive, food and aerospace industries, our objective is to remain flexible and fast with the ability to handle any type of job without compromising overall efficiency.

Continuing to grow

Liberty has recently added a team of mechanical engineers, metal working machinists and tool & die makers with tremendous experience in the packaging equipment and assembly automation industries.

The addition of these talented individuals has assisted in launching the Liberty Team in a new direction, radically increasing its knowledge and skill base.  More specifically, having the ability to take on assembly and component projects anywhere from one piece of production equipment to the entire end product.  Liberty currently has customers that make different kinds of equipment.  With the addition of these new talented individuals,  Liberty can now add even more value, finding creative ways to improve the productivity of Liberty’s customers and their needs.
